Welcome to my world everybody! My name is Devena Holmes, and I am currently an English teacher in the small town on Wessington Springs, South Dakota. As it is a small school, I teach grades 7-11 and am the entire English department. That being said, I have found the teaching profession both incredibly rewarding and incredibly frustrating, and it is for that reason that I have created this blog. I hope to use it to discuss important issues (and some not important ones), share some feelings, and get some really great advice!
I am an avid reader and a very novice Tolkien scholar. C.S. Lewis is also a constant favorite, and I read/watch almost anything in the realm of the fantastic. Furthermore, any critical thinking discussion about literature or pop culture (especially Disney) makes me absolutely giddy.
More personally, I grew a farmer’s daughter and am currently dating a farmer, so you can expect some old-fashioned morals and values to be expressed here. Being an old soul, I also enjoy sipping tea while knitting and crocheting. Nothing is better than a free crafting idea, which is why I have dedicated an entire page to crafty things!
Finally and most importantly, I am a believer in Jesus Christ. He carries me through every day, and I would be completely lost without him. He has great plans for you and me, and I cannot wait to discover them as we travel through life!
